Take a Risk

February 23, 2007

Unless you do, it’s not going to happen.

The dream, the plan, the vindication of triumph, the love that heals, the balmy climate where you can live languidly, the new body you want to build, the education, the career, the home, the travel, the gain, and all the glory.

All that you want, all that you cherish depends on you taking a risk.

Everything involves a risk. Everything!

Nothing in this world is static, so you have to risk all the time.

You risk to grow. You grow to stay young, to have hope, to believe in the world as you create it.

Risking isn’t easy. If it were, it wouldn’t be a risk.

What do you risk?

You always risk losing something you care about when you risk, because a risk isn’t a step. A risk is a leap.

What could you lose?

Your belief that you are safe? You’re only safe if you keep on risking.

Your belief that you are happy? You are only happy if you are growing.

Your belief that your work is done? If you are alive, your work is always just beginning.

You need to risk to adapt, to discover, to know, to learn, to give up, to let go, to see fully, to accept the world and what it bestows.

You need to risk to find yourself.

You need to risk to live.

I can. I know I want to…

I can. I know I have to…

I can. Yes! I can.

  1. Gallivanter Says:

If we’re not willing to take a chance for something worth risking for, then we might as well be zombies.

    That’s true. πŸ˜‰

  2. ianfluenza Says:

    πŸ™‚ thanks!

    No problem, Ian. πŸ™‚

I read somewhere once that by taking risks: if you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wise. πŸ˜‰

  3. tihtahpah Says:

i think i’m not really a risktaker. I just take calculated risk. but i guess, that’ll have to change…life can be pretty mundane if we’re too cautious sometimes.

I agree, Ttpah. After all, life is “trying things to see if they work.”

  4. zeroimpact Says:

I guess that is why they have risk management
We have to make the move and step forward and it is a risk as you step forward as you do not know what will the outcome be
Be it fortune telling that you will be successful but if you just sit and wait, you will die of hunger and will never be successful
It all goes back to the risk we take and the effort we put in
Nothing comes for free and so to speak risk free

    As Annie Dillard said:
β€œIf we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go into business, because we’d be too cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.”

  5. Is that whale in for a shock when it realises there is an Eskimo in that car with a harpoon!!!! πŸ™‚

Meanwhile, on the subject of risk, some lyrics from one of the songs I’m going to perform tomorrow:
    And I throw myself into,
    The sky of blue,
    In the hope that maybe,
    My love will get through.

Hehe.. I knew you’ll make fun off the pic. πŸ˜›

That sounds like a nice song, Dabs. πŸ˜‰

  6. Tine Says:

    That’s a good picture πŸ˜‰

My take is that if we don’t take risks, we end up holding back on what could potentially be good for us. And if it’s bad? Well … that’s how we learn and grow as a person, no?

    I agree with you, Tine.
After all, taking risks, making mistakes, and learning from all experiences show the capacity for being human. πŸ™‚

  7. C. Doodle Says:

Yes, take risks, no guts, no glory!
But bear in mind, they should be calculated risks.
Taking risks blindly could be suicidal!

Well, even for a turtle to stick his neck out is a risk.. but that’s the only way he can progress. πŸ˜‰

Yes, they could be suicidal but many people will still do what they want to do.. ‘cos if one gotta go, one gotta go. πŸ˜›

  8. Sha Says:

It’s better to try and fail, than not try and spend our lives wondering “what if?”

    That’s right, Sha. πŸ™‚

  9. moz monster Says:

    Yes !!! You CAN !!!

It’s amazing what the human will can do … weigh your risks, then proceed if you think the odds are you will make it.

Thanks for the reassurance & confidence, Moz. πŸ™‚
